249: big bird and a question

Driving down the road in Providence.

What the...

Oh my god!

A giant rooster?

I love stuff like this!

.............................................................................................................................

Now that I have your attention, I have a totally unrelated question for you:

Will you kindly share with me your favorite etsy shops?
I don't want to post on the etsy forum because I figure I'd be inundated with people promoting their own shops, when what I really want is recommendations from customers.

I am particularly interested in  :

-bar soaps (vegan, scented with natural ingredients, not more than 5 bucks a bar)

-soy candles (scented with natural ingredients)

-sterling silver jewelry (fabricated)

-letterpress cards

thanks!

Hey.

So this doesn't exactly meet your parameters, but I wanted to tell you anyway. I got this baby bar soap before theo was born that I love. It's vegan, organic, and made in the USA. i bought it at a woman who sells cloth diapers out of her house. It's just the yummiest ever. Their website is www.awildsoapbar.com. I believe it retails for $8 a bar.

Oh my goodness!! I am in Providence almost every day and have never seen that rooster. I'm going to have to go scope it out!

As for the etsy shops....I bought some soap last Christmas time and LOVED it. I probably have the site saved at home somewhere. Give me a bit and I'll see what I can find. I haven't got any recommendations for the others though :-(

Lucy in Disguise has a big Carmen Maranda (sp?) looking Zebra in Austin I will post it on my Flickr for ya ;)

UglyKitty sells custom letterpress stuff, sort of (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=49444). RDMDesigns has cool sterling silver stuff (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5463018). Don't know about the soap...

I'm a soap maker! But, I do use goat milk in my soap. So I don't reckon that counts as vegan.

I bought 2 necklaces from here:

I love them! I can send you a photo if you want...

Also I have to tell you I bought a pretzel necklace from twigs and heather that I just love- I was poking through your links and found their site and I fell in love with that salty treat! It's so fabulous seeing what other creative people love...

Your new fabrics are gorgeous, by the way.
I have ordered from MarieCarter on etsy (silver jewelry). The piece I received was exquisitely made. I've seen her work in "Wire Jewelry" magazine.
So far I haven't ordered any soap from this person, but I think it is beautiful...AmethystSoap.

My favorite FAVORITE letterpress shop on etsy is 12fifteen. I have several items and they're all just so lovely and wonderfully made.

The only item I can give a recommendation about is the letterpress card. I just bought a card from etsy user letterpress and I love it. The shop is small, but they emailed me to let me know there would be new items posted soon.

I love etsy. It gets me in trouble!

I've ordered some stuff from GudonyaTOO that I really liked. Not the soap though so I can't vouch for that specifically. A lot of their stuff is vegan, they are here:

I'm going to add a few of my favorited jewelery shops although they aren't all silver. And mostly still on my want list!

Melissa ! I have been visiting your blog every now and then ever since I met you at the Union Square boston handmade show. I was excited to see your fabrics and they are so fine ! I really love your color sense and style. I wrote you a comment once that never got on here. It might have been on my end... I wrote to say that I use to have lots of anxiety too ! But now it's much better because I decided I hated feeling anxious and nothing was worth putting my body through such torture. Exercise really helps.
Anyway, now I am curious to hear what show you are on. This is so exicitng. I got called by PBS recently to do a segment on Paper,Paint and Crafts but I declined partly because it was filmed in North Carolina and they weren't paying any travel expenses.
I like reading your blog. You have a great style and way with words which makes it FUN.

I'll be back ! Louise
